Windows is officially released, and some people keep asking me for help on deciding what laptops and tablets they should get. I reply with the same response: Depends on your taste.
Question 1: Do you want a touchscreen?
Though Windows 8 works fine without one, it is optimized for it. In fact the entire existence of Windows is based on touch. The question is do you really want touch? Do you really want to reach out to your computer LCD and touch something just because you can? Some will do, some will not. If yes is your answer, might I suggest the Acer Aspire S7? (Not available, yet). If not, proceed to the next question.
?
Question 2: Do you need a lot of power?
Do you just type or do you do hardcore 3D graphics animation? Do you watch movies or make 1080p HD movies? Do you need the power? Most of you will not, though some hardcore people might. The HP envy Spectre might help. Or the all awesome retina display Macbook Pro.
?
Question 3: Do you want a tablet?
Some people like iOS. Some prefer Android (most of you here loves Android). Yet some would like to try Windows 8 RT, the tablet version of Windows 8. I do not suggest buying one yet, but if you're desperate, the Dell XPS 12 might do the trick. A lot of people ask me whether or not they should get the Surface. Don't. At least not yet. It still has a lot of bugs, and the Windows RT is not that great of an OS. Wait for the pro version, which can handle what most PCs can.
?
Question 4: I still don't like all of them.
Then just use your old windows 7 (or XP if you still use it), or consider OSX.
