I love technology! The internet and cell phones and technology have made our world so much smaller and our reach as individuals so much greater. I can keep in touch with friends from high school and college and long-lost relatives. That connection could not be possible without the technology we enjoy so well today. Not only that, but I can meet new people online in other parts of, not only the country, but the world. It really is mind-blowing if you think about it too long, the connection that is possible in today's world. And that connection is also very possible and valuable to building a successful direct sales business.
Direct sales used to be very limited to the physical world around us. How far can I drive in my car? How many people can I get out and talk to today? How many phone calls can I make? And while those methods are still super valuable today, so are the methods of meeting and maintaining business relationships online. The internet gives Direct Sales Professionals an entire arsenal to reach those sales goals and I love it because it allows me greater balance in my personal life by saving my time and resources.
The first step would be to have a blog or website. I imagine most direct sales companies provide a personal website for their consultants at a minimal fee. When looking for a direct sales company, it is important to know their online compliance rules for websites. In addition to the provide website, some direct sales companies will allow consultants an external website for product promotion only. If you are setting up your own website, my best advice is to make Google your very best friend. Any question I have ever had about my website has been answered by a Google search. Some searches may take longer than others, but if I dig deep enough I can find what I am looking for.
Once your site is set up and ready to go, the next objective is to drive traffic to your site. And that is exactly what I Googled when I first started my search engine optimization (SEO) efforts. Some of the most important tools I have found to meet that objective are Google Analytics and social bookmarking.
Google Analytics allows me to keep track of the traffic coming to my site, to analyze patterns and search terms and bounce rates. Most days I wait for midnight before I go to bed so I can see how many visitors I have had that day and from where in the world they came. Analytics has a map of the world that highlights the locations of my visitors. Very cool! It also has other charts and graphs to map time spent on my site by visitors, which pages were clicked on and how frequently, which search terms were used to find my site, and which sites or search engines referred traffic to my site.
Social bookmarking is a method of bookmarking favored webpages on the internet instead of on a browser and sharing those webpages with other internet users. Each time you bookmark a page, it is a vote in favor of that page and can lead others to take an interest in it also. Becoming active with social bookmarking is a wonderful way for Direct Sales Professionals to promote their products with other web users.
The first step is to sign up for the social bookmarking sites that you like. There are many, many different social bookmarking sites and each can be geared toward a different demographic. You can research the different sites by Googling "top social bookmarking sites". I went through several sites and chose the ones that I felt fit my needs the best. Next, I put a share button on my website to make it easy for visitors to bookmark my site. My share button is at the bottom of each of my posts and pages and contains several social bookmarking sites visitors can easily click on. Lastly, every time I publish new content on my site, I bookmark it on my preferred social bookmarking sites.
Then, I check Google Analytics daily to see the new traffic social bookmarking has referred to my site. Because of that, I can truly say that I have received a lot of traffic from those sites. Also, it is a good idea to be reciprocal. As I browse the internet, even for other interests outside of my own direct sales business, I am always sure to "Propel," "Like," "Digg," or "Buzz" the articles I enjoy.
Being in the business of sales is a numbers game. The more people I can drive to my website, the better chance I have to reach my goals and meet new and interesting people all over the world. Google Analytics and Social Bookmarking are two of the many tools Direct Sales Professionals can use to reach those goals.
