Alameda?s Island Yacht Club?s 20th annual Northern California Women?s Sailing Seminar, a weekend program for adult women to learn about sailing is taught by some of the best women sailors on the west coast. Scheduled for September 22-23 this year, classes are fun, relaxing, educational and inspiring, both in classroom workshops and on the water.

Women may choose special ?tracks? which are Beginner, Spinnaker or Blue Water Cruising. Classes also may be scheduled separately and may include advanced sail trim, navigation, crew overboard and diesel engine maintenance. On the second day, women choose to either to race on the Oakland estuary or to cruise on the San Francisco Bay. Register by September 8, 2012 ?to take advantage of the two-day ?early bird? discounted fee of $175 which covers two full days of workshops ? both classroom and on the water, continental breakfasts, lunches, one raffle ticket, class handouts, WSS visor, a bag filled with goodies from sponsors. Registration is first-come, first-served. If space is available after September 8, registration fees go up to $200 for both days.

Island Yacht Club is an unpretentious, all-volunteer nonprofit yacht club that welcomes all boating enthusiasts. Participants are entitled to an introductory membership special that runs during the Women?s Sailing Seminar. IYC will waive the usual $100 initiation fee and the annual dues of $375 will cover membership through the end of 2013.
