Children in the foster care system cost taxpayers money whether or not they live in foster care, or with an adoptive family that receives a subsidy for them.
I have been tentatively matched with a very high-needs 11 year old autistic child, and the agency has been searching for a home for this child for a long time. Based upon the photos I have seen, he was first listed at age 6 or so.
I could not adopt this child without the help of the subsidy. We could make a great family, but I honestly cannot move forward with the agency unless his needs can be met financially.
