In order for a sleep disorder to be classified as such, it must take place on a more or less regular basis. Occasional or rare sleep disruptions do not constitute as sleep disorders. Some sleep disorders cause problems with mental and emotional functioning while others manifest themselves in physical ways.

The person suffering from a sleep disorder may have difficulty getting to sleep at night or staying asleep as well as having difficulty staying awake throughout the day. Sleep disorders are also the result of endocrine malfunction such as thyroid disorder and diabetes. Diabetes affects the way in which the body stores and uses carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

This is a chronic sleep disorder and a chronic neurological disorder that is caused by the inability of an individual?s brain to regulate sleep-wake cycles properly.

Not all sleep disorders are related to a medical condition or disorder. Individuals can also experience nightmares, sleepwalking, night terrors, and teeth grinding which are also considered sleep disorders.

So, what do sleep disorders have to do with anxiety disorders? Research has shown that anxiety can cause a this disorder ? but, interestingly, a sleep disorder can also cause anxiety.Snoring, which is often confused with sleep apnea, could be a major barrier to quality sleep both for yourself and your better half.

Sleepwalking and constant nightmares are also kinds of sleep disorders. These need to be treated accordingly.
