Edebiri vows to return Insurance to Premier League

By John Egbokhan

The All Nigeria Peo-ple?s Party Gubernatorial candidate in the Edo 2012 Elections, Solomon Edebiri has? spoken of his plans to ensure that Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin return to the Nigeria Premier League if elected in Saturday?s highly anticipated governorship polls.

Having contributed to the development of sports in Edo State in the last decade, Edebiri, said he was saddened with the way the sports sector was being administered by successive governments in the state, particularly the present government under incumbent Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria.

He said that with the rich history attached to the old Bendel State, it was curious to see that Edo was making backward drifts while her sister, Delta, was making giant strides on a daily basis. He laid the blame on the door-step of the political leadership, which he said had not shown any sign that it knows the dynamics of sports administration.

?My mission when elected Governor is to return Bendel Insurance to their glorious days within the first two years of my swearing-in. It is achievable by recruiting the best players and coaches to take them out of the pro-league to the Premier League.?

?I am going to engage the team in international friendly matches with top clubs in Africa, so that they can get into the best shape for the challenge of dominating the Nigerian scene again. They used to be great and with an excellent reward package, the one never seen before in the country, I surely believe that Bendel Insurance will bounce back to reckoning under my administration?, added Edebiri.
