Silverbacks soccer club appoints new assistant coach

DORAVILLE, Ga. -- The Atlanta Silverback soccer club announced on Tuesday that Franklin McIntosh is taking over as the team's assistant coach.

As reported by Neal Malone, Public Relations Manager of the Silverbacks, McIntosh is from West Bromwich, England, and has been in Atlanta for 16 years. He began as a member of Atlanta Attack, and followed by directing and coaching some of the city's youth soccer teams. In recent years, McIntosh has scouted for the Silverbacks.

"I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Silverbacks coaching staff," McIntosh said. "My goal is to do whatever I can to help Brian and help the club get to where they're supposed to be - at the top of the league."

After moving to the U.S. and gaining citizenship, said Malone, McIntosh represented the country in the 1996 Futsal World Cup in Spain and the 1997 World Cup Championship.

"When the club gave me the opportunity to be the coach this offseason, Franklin was the first guy I thought of for the assistant coaching role," Coach Brian Haynes said. "He knows the pulse of Atlanta soccer better than anyone else, and he has an incredible mind for the game."

McIntosh has been on hand for the Silverbacks' open tryouts, and will continue at the start of preseason.
