Cool, Casual and Earth-Friendly Vegetarian Dining In Manila ...

Being a vegetarian in Manila can be quite the conundrum. The Metro is quite plentiful in restos and bitros that specialize in savory meat, poultry and seafood dishes, but is rather apparent in its dearth of dedicated vegetarian-restaurants. Let?s not forget that popular fast-food chain stores are dime-a-dozen in cities all over Metro Manila, boasting increasingly unhealthy food and the oddest of burgers seemingly in a bid to top the competition. Some vegetarians are fine subsisting on faux meat offered by certain food court franchises. However, if you want something more satisfying than faux meat BBQ, and crave for more authentic flavors, creativity, and innovation in your vegetarian cuisine, what do you do?

If you find yourself cruising along the great foodie strip of Maginhawa Street in UP Teacher?s Village in Quezon City, turn right into Malingap Street, and be sure to watch out for Pipino, a vegetarian restaurant located on the second floor of Pino Resto*Bar and Pino Kitchen Studio.

?

Pipino is the Filipino word for ?Cucumber?, and the cool, clean, and fresh interior of this restaurant certainly evokes the virtues of this humble vegetable. Soft music with cool rhythms and soulful lyrics waft through the air. Cheerful chalk art and deft watercolor strokes present a number of Pipino?s delicious offerings, and spread this restaurant?s message of earth-consciousness.

Portobello Inasal, Veggie Kare-Kare, and Watermelon Steak are just some of this restaurant?s best-seller and intriguing entrees. For pasta lovers, Vegan Lasagna, Cold Soba Buckwheat Noodles, and Garlic Noodles are must-trys. For drinks, the Pino Signature Tea, Lemongrass, Ginger, and Pipino Coolers are definite winners.

Dessert lovers can bring their meal experience to a sweet end with two choices: home-made ice cream, or baked goodies. Pipino?s ice cream is made from 100% fresh cashew milk and sweetened with maple syrup, and has four delectable flavors to choose from: Oreo, Fresh Lemon, Dark Chocolate, and Vanilla (non-honey) Graham. Their Coconut Ice Cream is made with fresh coconut milk, and their Banana Sherbet brings a refreshing taste of summer.

Their muffins and cupcakes are delightful both in presentation and flavors. Try their Banana Chia muffin, Green Tea Cupcakes, and Red Velvet Cupcakes. These goodies go quite well with Organic coffee, and are diabetic-friendly.

This dessert menu list is but one of the many watercolor signs that deck Pipino, lovingly crafted by ts proprietess, Ms. Alessandra Lanot.

Pipino is open Mondays through Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Midnight, and on Sundays from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
