Condition of NC girl shot at school improves (AP)

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. ? A 15-year-old girl wounded in a school shooting near Fayetteville last week has been upgraded to critical but stable condition.

Cumberland County Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said Catilyn Abercrombie is now breathing without the aid of a mechanical respirator. Tanna said a .22 caliber bullet is still lodged in the teen's neck near her spine.

Officials have charged a 15-year-old juvenile in the Oct. 24 shooting at Cape Fear High School. Eighteen-year-old Ta'von McLaurin is charged with felony aiding and abetting.

Deputies believe Abercrombie was not the intended target.
